Rules | Terms and Conditions

Each of these rules applies to ALL areas of the site unless otherwise stated.

1: Attacks

Any attempt to goad, aggravate, harass, upset or in any way detrimentally affect any member or staff member whatsoever is an attack. We do not tolerate attempts to do this, nor to start fights with the intention of blaming it on another.

There will be:

  • No false accusations.
  • No attempts to start fights.
  • No bullying.
  • No continuing with such behavior after staff have become involved.

    If anyone attempts to attack or otherwise harass you, or approach you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable then it should be reported. If you are unsure whether or not the incident in question counts as an attack, still report it, but do not report things which have not actually occurred.

    2: Prejudice and Discrimination are forbidden

    This includes:

  • Racism.
  • Sexism.
  • Homophobia.
  • Attacking because of religious or political beliefs.
  • Making fun of or endorsing such things as genocide or wars.
  • Grudges.

    Whereas we do not tolerate homophobic remarks or behavior it must also be noted that there is no need for excess. Inappropriate behavior whether it is based on either sexuality is not acceptable. We are aware of tension regarding this matter on some other sites, therefore we ask that discussion on the mater is kept to a minimum.

    Although we understand that people cannot always control their emotions, we ask that members try not to allow grudges to affect the way they behave and make decisions on the site. Doing so only creates and prolongs further problems later on.

    3: No arguing with staff members

    Once an action has been taken by a staff member regarding a broken rule, please do not continue to behave in the same way. Please do not attack the staff for doing their jobs. Similarly those who have reported such behavior should also not have to be attacked for it. If it is not a genuine offence then it will be dealt with, as will fake reporting. There is no need to fight over it either way. If you feel that you have been unfairly treated you should follow our complaints procedure.

    4: No Cheating

    Cheating includes, but is not restricted to:

  • Unfairly influencing votes or awards, especially by, bribing, bullying or rumor-mongering.
  • Bribing or accepting bribes for any purpose whatsoever.
  • Exploiting coding loopholes, especially to personal advantage.
  • Scamming another member out of money, items or anything else.
  • Applying for positions or jobs with false information or under more than one username.
  • Having access to more than one account, whether it is your own, a relatives or anyone else's.

    5: No Inappropriate or Adult Content

    No sexual or violent material, including in links, profiles, signatures, avatars, private messages, forum posts or any other part of the site whatsoever is tolerated.

    No swearing other than the couple of mild words used in the books will be allowed, and then must not be used to excess.

    No talk of suicide or self harming.

    6: Keep to the Roleplaying Guidelines

    7: No Hacking

    Whether by exploiting coding or otherwise, hacking is taken very seriously. We will always press for the strongest charges and penalties available and every attempt, whether successful or not, will be reported to the Internet Security Authorities as well as to ISPS (Internet Service Providers) of each individual involved.

    8: No bringing drama here from other sites.

    This includes but is not restricted to arguments, grudges etc.

    9a: Copyright Infringement

    We will not tolerate the stealing of layouts, graphics, content or any other part of the site whatsoever, either by members or visitors. Equinox is legally copyrighted under the Creative Commons Licence and all and any infringements will be dealt with swiftly and seriously.

    9b: Image Use

    The Staff have created specific banners that are given to some members, based on various achievements they have made. These include various ribbons and Quidditch buttons. You are not allowed to use these and put them into your signatures, profiles, or anywhere else on or off of the site. If we see instances of this, we will PM the specific user, and if it comes to it, remove the banner ourselves. If this rule is broken again, we will then decide some sort of repercussions to be had.

    10: Advertising

    We ask that no other site be advertised here unless it is affiliated with EH, ESPECIALLY other RP sites.

    11: Credit

    Any material submitted to the site in form of ideas, graphics etc. shall become the property of Equinox. Credit will be given for any submitted material that is used wherever possible.

    12: Photographs and Privacy

    We ask that no member posts any personal details or photographs anywhere on the site, with the exception of perhaps an email address or instant messenger screen name only with parental permission unless that member is themselves over 18 years of age.

    13: Face Claims

    In order to avoid confusion, we must ask that no member uses the same actor/actress/model in their character graphics as another member. There will shortly be a page up upon which you can claim a face.

    14: Sharing Accounts

    We ask that no one shares their account. This is mainly for security purposes, but also helps us to avoid cheating. For example: each species has a private forum. Shared accounts may result in some people having access to forums for more than one species, which obviously wouldn't be fair for the other members.

    15:Post limitations and RP-Only forums

    With the exception of the High school parking lot and species-only forums, each of the forums will be reserved for Roleplaying only from now on. This is so that the RPs do not get buried in chat and thus to make them easier to find and participate in. It also helps us to avoid spam. Any non-RP post in an RP-only forum will be removed. A notice will be added to the top of each of the RP only forums as a reminder.

    You may still RP in any of the other forums, but anyone responding to these RP posts still need to respond only with RPs. We'd prefer for all RPs posted to remain in character. If you need to say something out of character to someone else involved in the thread, you can always use private messages.

    There is a minimum word limit of five words in a chat thread and five sentences in an RP thread.

    16: Reviews

    We appreciate the thoughts behind giving EH good reviews, publicity, and general promotion; however we request that no person associated with Nox attempts to negatively affect the reputation of another site by leaving bad reviews for them with the sole purpose of making Nox seem superior. Everyone is, of course entitled to their own opinion however we do ask that those opinions not be attributed to EH. Although we're pleased that so many of you prefer EH.

    17: Multiple Accounts

    In order to help the plot progress, it is occasionally necessary for a staff member to post using an NPC (no persons character) account. In addition to this, staff members are able to have up to three permanent accounts in order to allow them to enjoy the site without being constantly "on call". Non-staff members are currently only allowed one account, except at the discretion of the staff. In the near future, two accounts will be made available to non-staff members on a discretionary basis. Any member will only be allowed to vote, enter competitions, etc. with one of their characters, so that no one is given an unfair advantage.

    If you have a relative or friend who wishes to join the site and you are to be using the same computer, the Administrators must be informed of this fact before the second member signs up. The Administration reserves the right to remove the accounts of and ban any member holding more than one account illegally.

    18: Multiple Accounts and Quidditch

    Members with multiple accounts are allowed to have multiple characters on Quidditch teams. However, there is a maximum of two starting positions and one reserve position for any member. There is also a limit of one starting player per team (a second character is allowed to become a reserve player). During team tryouts, preference is given to candidates who do not already have Quidditch players. However, that does not guarantee that second characters cannot earn Quidditch spots competitively. In any given match, a member may only have one active player. Also, only one account can be a team captain at a time. If a player is made Captain, they can only have other accounts on the same team if they were players before the position was appointed. Captains cannot give their other accounts places on the team.
