| Site rules reminder |
I know we have a lot of new students and because of this, I have been seeing some of the rules slip out of peoples minds a little. So please read this little refresher. Thanks!
You still may not swear anywhere on the site. And this is not an excuse to go overboard. If anything is inappropriate, or too explicit in content the staff will remove it without warning. That includes posts, signatures, private messages - anything on the site at all.
No God-Modding.
God-Modding is a practice whereby a character automatically has everything they do work perfectly. If they cast a spell it works first time and always hits its target. When Role-playing such a thing as a duel, always give the other player a chance to dodge the spells being cast in their direction. For instance: "Larry-Stu cast a killing curse at him, slaying him instantly." Would be an example of this. Not only has a school student cast a curse that takes years to perfect while still unqualified, he has not given the other player a chance to duck out of the way or to otherwise react.
It is generally considered to be good manners, when replying to a roleplay, to write roughly the same amount in reply to the other members taking part. Imagine how disappointing it would be if you wrote something that took an hour only to have a single reply of: "Mary-Sue walked into the room 'OMG Hiiii!'" in return. Role-plays, on the other hand are required to have a paragraph of at least five sentences in all posts.
Please follow these rules or the staffies will begin to lock some posts. Now go have fun! :) |

| Reminder on Brooms! |
Hello all! Since we'll be starting Quidditch trials soon the staff has noticed a lot of people are saying that they have Nimbus 2000's and 2001's. The Nimbus 2001 has only been out a year, and the Nimbus 2000 at that point is only about two years old and Firebolts don't exist! They have not yet been created. It is ridiculous to imagine that soo many people would even have access to 2000's let alone 2001's. Your family being rich is not a good enough reason to have a 2001 or even a 2000 because not every family can be mega wealthy it just doesn't happen. There are plenty of perfectly other qualified brooms even Nimbuses of older model that are appropriate. So many people say that their families are well off and they write it off as saying they 'inherited a fortune' or 'did well in the stock market' but that so rarely happens in RL that it's really not going to be allowed here unless you just write us an application that wows and amazes us which is probably not going to happen.
We plan to come up with a way for people to EARN the right to have 2000's and 2001's and later Firebolts through RPing but we're not there yet. Right now the only families that would have the kinds of connections to 2001's would be the Owens who OWN a Quidditch team and the Chevaliers whose father plays for the Owens' team. And 2000's would be very very limited. There are plenty of other good brooms.. for example..
Nimbus

1001
1500
1700
Comet
260 - Tonks and Cho both fly these.
Cleansweep
Five - the Weasley twins have these.
Six
Seven - Oliver reccommended this for Harry when they met
Those are 8 GOOD brooms that won't make your character into a Sue if you use them so please make use of those. If you'd like more information on brooms you can check the book Quidditch Through the Ages by JKR or of course the Harry Potter Lexicon. If you still believe that after all this that your character currently deserves a 2000 or a 2001 you MUST have permission from a staff member. We will be keeping lists of those approved (and the reasons why they have been) so if we catch anyone RPing that they have said broom without being on the list the posts will be deleted without warning. We don't want to make this unrealistic and right now it is. Everyone is claiming to be rich enough to have a 2000 - it's not possible. So for now until we have a better way to distribute them unless you directly have permission from a mod you don't have one, use one of the above models. Thanks!
Comet 290s have been removed. They don't come out until 1995.
